This French collector is not formally trained as an art historian, but a passionate researcher, guided above all by the soul of the artworks. Several years ago, during a trip to Romania, he met a man who had preserved a series of works forgotten by time. This man claimed that they had been created by Constantin Brancusi and that each carried a profoundly moving story.

These works belonged to a family of collectors, the Brandls, who, on the eve of the fall of the Romanian regime in 1989, had safeguarded them in the strictest secrecy. But political turmoil swept away this fragile legacy: the family was torn apart, the works hidden, and the truth buried. This man remained the sole witness.

In a world where power and the market dictate the value of things, these works lost all recognition. Unable to place them within the Western art circuit, he entrusted them so they could be preserved, make sense, and be revealed to the world. Thus, the collection passed into the hands of the French collector, who later discovered that the name “Lucia Brandl Collection” was already known to Brancusi experts, notably because of a work confiscated by the Romanian state and now housed at the National Museum of Bucharest.

Since then, the French collector has pursued a long and demanding quest: tracing the origins of these works, exploring the myths surrounding them, and giving art its voice again.

True art does not belong to the games of the powerful, but to humanity’s recognition of its creator.
